A Message from the Founder

LeadU Works...When You Do!

I was reminded of a saying this weekend by a friend who
attended one of our leadership retreats. "Anything
works if you do." He said he was told this saying by
someone a number of years ago, so I apologize if that
person doesn't get the credit they deserve.

The context the remark was provided in was around
creating a sales system. I notice that many people
often get stuck in "figuring out" what they are going
to do and never do anything as a result. It's natural
of course. Especially if one understands the learning
cycle by David Kolb. His simple cycle states that
people learn by experiencing - observing - modeling -
experimenting, in that order. Most of us don't have a
balanced learning cycle, so we "favor" one or two
aspects of the cycle over others.

That's why some people never read instructions and
others don't like to take chances. It's more
complicated then that, but it's important to understand
your learning cycle, your learning style and how it
affects how you naturally are inclined.

Back to the quote: "Anything works, if you do."

In Leadership University, we provide you with a
tailor-made infrastructure to get you out in front of
people through our teledevelopment system. We provide
you with a listing that goes out to thousands of people
each week. We provide you with a secure teledevelopment
environment which is easy to manage. And last but not
least, we provide you with support from within
Leadership University by attracting members to your

The first thing I tell people is to get their favorite
topic--the one they are passionate about and just share
it with people. Most people will relate to you their
"system" of attracting people to their vision, but
quite frankly, "anything works if you do."

Over the next few months, you'll hear us time and time
again asking you to join us with a teledevelopment
program you can offer for the fall. Now is the time to
step up, especially for you pressure-prompted folks and
lock in a date. I find that creating an end date begins
to put the wheels in motion.
If nothing else, use the Leadership Development System
or LeaDS to create a tangible model of what you
offer...if nothing else, do that.

This will help you with everything you need to attract
clients or to influence people to your vision. I don't
claim to be an expert on these topics or systems. I
make a lot of mistakes. In fact, that's how I learn! If
only I would have learned that 40 years ago! But that's
another story. [Yes, we need to teach leadership
beginning no later than 6th grade and along with it
personal awareness of how one learns and functions in
the world by the time people go to college!]

I have been successful though. Even though I have to
lay claim to having been a successful failure at times
because I have failed, but I do learn from my
failures...although at times I have to do them a few
times before I really learn enough to move beyond them.
While failing to succeed is not for everyone, you can't
be afraid of failure and don't need to be if you'll
just learn to learn that failing is not failure, but an
opportunity to see if you're on the right track.

My wish in the end is that every person would approach
experimentation with an open mind and non-judgment and
then just learn from there. Because in the
end..."anything works if you do."

Basically critical thinking consists of:

-Knowledge - exhibits previously learned material by
recalling facts, terms, basic concepts and answers.

-Comprehension - demonstrating understanding of facts
and ideas by organizing, comparing, translating,
interpreting, giving descriptions and stating main

-Application - solving problems by applying acquired
knowledge, facts, techniques and rules in a different

-Analysis - examining and breaking information into
parts by identifying motives or causes; making
inferences and finding evidence to support

-Synthesis - compiling information together in a

proposing alternative solutions.

-Evaluation - presenting and defending opinions by
making judgments about information, validity of ideas
or quality of work based on a set of criteria.

-Yet, few people, me included actually understand the
